Privacy Policy for Rhythm

1. Introduction

Rhythm ("we," "us," or "our") provides a lifestyle and activity tracking platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information. Our primary philosophy is Local-First: your personal habits and activity data belongs to you and stays on your device.

2. Data Collection and Usage

We distinguish between "Personal Activity Data" (which stays on your device) and "Technical Data" (used for app performance and monetization).

Personal Activity Data On-Device Only

The following data is stored locally in a Room/SQLite database on your device. We never transmit this data to our servers:

Movement & Steps: Recorded via device sensors to provide daily charts and history.
Habit Logs (Rituals): Your progress on hydration, reading, focus, and custom habits.
Exploration Sessions: GPS coordinates, pace, and distance for runs, walks, or cycles.
Gamification: Your XP, levels, and earned badges.

Technical & Advertising Data Third-Party Processing

To keep the app free and functional, we use the following services which may collect certain identifiers:

Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics: Collects anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to help us fix bugs and improve performance.
Google AdMob: Uses the Android Advertising ID to show rewarded ads. This allows you to access premium features or remove ads temporarily.

3. Android Permissions

To provide its core features, Rhythm requires the following permissions:

ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION: To count your steps using hardware sensors.
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION: To map your routes during active Exploration sessions.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION & FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC: To ensure your steps and GPS sessions are not interrupted when you switch apps.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS: To alert you of achievements and active session status.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: To resume step tracking automatically after you restart your phone.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We share limited technical data with these providers for specific purposes:

Google Play Services: Required for app functionality and security.
AdMob: Google Privacy Policy
Firebase: Used for performance monitoring and analytics.
OpenFreeMap: Used to display map tiles. No user-identifiable data is shared with this service.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Since your Personal Activity Data is stored locally, you have total control:

In-App Clear: You can use the "Clear All Data" option in the Settings menu.
Manual Reset: Clearing the app cache/data in Android Settings or uninstalling the app will permanently delete all local records.

Technical data collected by Firebase is retained according to Google’s standard retention policies (typically 14 months).

6. Children’s Privacy

Rhythm does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have collected technical data from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.
